24-year-old dental surgery student Iris Mittenaere from Northern France beat 85 other confidently beautiful queens to take the crown of Miss Universe.

As Miss Universe, she said she will be an advocate for dental and oral care around the world.

"This sash is not only a sash," said Mittenaere,  "This is my dream to meet people, to help people and  to understand people."

First and second runner-ups were Miss Haiti (Raquel Pelissier) and Miss Colombia (Andrea Tovar).

The top six  finalists were Raquel Pelissier of Haiti, Andrea Tovar of Colombia, Maxene Medina of the Philippines, Chalita Suansane of Thailand and Mary Esther Were of Kenya.

And the top finalists; Kenya, Indonesia, Mexico, Peru, Panama, Colombia, Phillippines, Canada, Brazil, France, Haiti, Thailand and the U.S.
The pageant counted online votes from the Miss Universe app and Twitter.
